Ohio's 13U Nyla Sikyala Runs 11.92 to Take Second at International Youth Championship

The Sprint Factory's Nyla Sikyala ran 11.92 in the final and moved to No. 2 on Athletic.net's current all-wind 13U girls club list.

Two days after running 12.13 in the semifinal, Sikyala returned for the July 19 final at Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Maryland. Sikyala stopped the clock 0.21 seconds faster than she did in the semifinal, though the +2.4 wind keeps the 11.92 from counting as a wind-legal personal best.

A Championship Season Taking Shape

Sikyala's place among the nation's fastest 13U sprinters rests on more than one race. She won the 100m at the AAU Potomac Valley District Qualifier, then won the 100m and 200m at the AAU Region 3 Qualifier in June. At the International Youth Championship, she advanced through the 100m rounds and finished second in the final behind Southern Sprinters Elite Track & Field's Leila Wiseman.

The result was more than one fast time. It added an International Youth Championship runner-up finish to a season already marked by district and regional wins.

The National Picture

Landmark Christian's Morgan Doggett leads Athletic.net's current all-wind 13U girls club list, which includes wind-aided marks, at 11.79. The Sprint Factory's Nyla Sikyala follows at 11.92, with MABA Elite Track Club's Aubrey Heard third at 12.00.

Wiseman won their combined 13–14 final in 11.67, but she is 14 and appears on the separate 14U list. Her faster time does not change Sikyala's place among 13U athletes.

The Sprint Factory now sends one of Ohio’s leading 13U sprinters into her next national-level competition with district and regional wins behind her and an International Youth Championship runner-up finish beside her name.

What Comes Next

The next question is not whether Sikyala belongs among the country's leading 13U sprinters. Her season has already answered that.

The question now is how far she can carry that form in her next national-level competition.
